ABA Therapy and Autism Evaluations in Valdosta, Georgia

For a lot of Valdosta families, getting answers about autism has meant a long drive: to Thomasville, to Tallahassee, or 230 miles north to Atlanta, sometimes after waiting more than a year for the appointment. B Above Services is bringing autism diagnostic evaluations and in-home ABA therapy to Valdosta and Lowndes County, so your child can get support where they already live, learn, and play.

Our therapy happens in your home, at your child’s school or daycare, and out in the community, guided by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and built around your family’s routines.

Answers for South Georgia Families

Lowndes County is home to about 123,000 people. It’s the medical hub for a 15-county region of south-central Georgia and north Florida, but specialized autism care has been hard to find locally. SGMC Health’s psychiatry practice treats children but doesn’t provide autism evaluations, so families are often referred out of town.

That distance adds up. Every month spent waiting for a diagnosis is a month a child isn’t getting support during the years when early intervention matters most. Our Diagnostic-to-Services Pathway is built to close that gap:

  1. Screening and insurance check: we confirm your benefits before anything is scheduled.
  2. Virtual parent interview: you meet with our psychologist by video, from home.
  3. In-person evaluation: a structured assessment of communication, social skills, and behavior.
  4. Results and next steps: clear recommendations, and if ABA is the right fit, the same team helps you get started.

In-Home ABA Therapy Across Lowndes County

Valdosta already has a few clinic-based ABA providers. B Above takes a different approach: Natural Environment ABA, which means your child’s therapy happens in the places where skills actually get used.

  • At home: building communication, daily living skills, and routines like mealtime, bedtime, and getting ready in the morning.
  • At school or daycare: helping skills carry over into the classroom, with your permission and the school’s coordination.
  • In the community: practicing real-world skills at the store, the park, church, or appointments.

Every program is designed and supervised by a BCBA and delivered one-on-one by a trained Registered Behavior Technician (RBT). Caregiver training is built in from day one, so you feel confident between sessions.

Supporting Students in Valdosta City and Lowndes County Schools

Lowndes County has two public school systems. Valdosta City Schools serves more than 8,200 students inside the city limits. Lowndes County Schools serves about 10,600 students in Hahira, Lake Park, Remerton, Dasher, Bemiss, Clyattville, and Moody AFB.

An outside autism evaluation can help when you want answers before or alongside the school’s own process. It’s a medical diagnosis that insurance requires before it will cover ABA, and it’s separate from school special education eligibility. With your permission, our BCBAs can coordinate with your child’s teachers so goals stay consistent from home to the classroom.

Paying for ABA Therapy in Georgia

Georgia offers more coverage for autism care than many families realize.

Georgia Medicaid and PeachCare for Kids

Georgia Medicaid has covered ABA therapy (called Adaptive Behavior Services) for children and young adults under 21 since 2018, when it’s medically necessary and there’s a documented autism diagnosis. Most Medicaid families are enrolled in a Care Management Organization (CMO): currently Amerigroup, CareSource, or Peach State Health Plan.

Georgia is in the middle of a Medicaid plan transition. The state has selected CareSource, Humana, Molina, and UnitedHealthcare as future plans, and current contracts have been extended while the change is finalized. Our intake team will tell you exactly where your plan stands and what it means for your child’s coverage.

Private insurance and Ava’s Law

Under Ava’s Law, state-regulated private insurance plans in Georgia must cover autism evaluations and ABA therapy for children and young adults through age 20. Many employer plans are self-funded and follow their own rules, so we always verify your specific benefits before services start.

You don’t need to figure this out alone. Our intake team checks your benefits, explains your coverage in plain language, and handles authorization.
